Android World Round Up: Motorola Glam – Desire Update Sham – Optimus – Galaxy S

Vodafone not convincing anyone
When we reported Vodafone’s Android 2.1 update for their European HTC Desire yesterday as being little more than adware and a crude attempt to distract customers from the fact that Orange were beginning the roll-out of OS 2.2 for their Desire users, Vodafone were quick to respond. The update, they say, was nothing to do with Android 2.2 which is still due to be brought to the handset. Rather it was an “opportunity” to give their customers “access” to their 360 services which seems to be far more about branding than functionality. You can read their response in full here if you like.

Glamming it up in South Korea
The latest Android phone to be released in South Korea today, the Motorola Glam (pictured) might look and sound sweet but it packs a real punch. At 854 by 480 px ,its 3.7 inch multi-touch display makes it one of the highest density screens on the market and it doesn’t end there, the Glam has Bluetooth 2.1, an LED flash and a gig of NAND flash memory. Who says you can’t be sweet and hard?

Not banned in the UAE
Thinking of taking your blackberry to the middle east on a business trip but been reading the news? Well there’s an alternative to blackberry as a business handset and it has nothing to do with fruit. In fact the LG Optimus has just gone on sale in The United Arab Emirates. Its a brilliant little phone actually, and is fantastic for video. For some reason I do not understand it plays DivX videos without using hardly any resources. For AED949, that’s $260, its almost worth picking one up just for the trip.

I just can’t shut up about the Galaxy S
My favourite phone, the Marvelous Samsung Galaxy S, is fast becoming an international favourite too. In Brazil they’ve preinstalled an ISDB TV tuner on it (pictured). I had to double check the currency conversion when I saw the price 2,399 Brazilian Real is 1,367 US Dollars! It does have a snazzy little aerial for the TV tuner which one can only imagine must be made of plutonium.

In China the Galaxy S is soon to appear as the Samsung GT-I9008 – snappy. Nothing on the price yet though but surely less than a bloody grand.
