Notion Ink’s Adam Tablet Stirs Controversy with Faulty Hardware & Inadequate Customer Service

| January 30, 2011 | Comments (4)

Everyone remembers hearing about the Notion Ink Adam right? The tablet’s first round of pre-order shipments made their way into the Android world stiring up some controversy along the way. While not every Adam is affected, there have been widespread reports of difficult use, blotchy screens(PQ screens), and hardware issues including a non-functioning camera.

To top off the Adam tablet’s physical problems, it seems that Notion Ink customer service has come under fire as well for not being so helpful in assisting their troubled customers. To get to the root of this story, we can trace it all back to a Adam tablet purchaser by the screen name Rambler358, who is enjoying their 15 minutes of fame due to lack of assistance on Notion Ink’s part. Rambler, whose rise to fame started on the NotionAddicts messageboard, received the Adam tablet only to slowly realize it wasn’t in tip-top shape, facing all the above problems. After being in contact with customer service multiple times, never able to resolve the issues, the 7 day return period on the tablet expired, leading faulty Adam owners to believe Notion Ink is purposely stalling in order to save their own money. You can read an extremely detailed report of Rambler’s experience over at AndroidCommunity.

Has anyone out there with an Adam experienced any of these problems? We hope not. But if you have, hopefully you’ll be helped in a more timely matter. If you are still holding out on purchasing a tablet, you can always take some advice from Rambler who said,  ”At this point I think I just really want to return it for a full refund and get the Moto Xoom next month.”

Is anyone surprised? No way I would have bought that thing. Good luck.

    • Is very disappointing how things seem to be going for notion ink that had so much potential…i hope that can right their wrongs and get back on track but they have certainly had some negative press as of late, guess we have to remember they are new company sorta and still ironing out the wrinkles…..

These are growing pains faced by any startup. The level of support cannot match the big boys yet, for sure. But looking at some of the functionalities and the grit I have a feeling they will very quickly learn and adapt their game.
Their ingenious camera, touchpad and screens are something no other company has come up with.

agreed, every company has major failure at some point, they can only learn from mistakes, improve, and move on, the product is one thing, but yeah the bad press that comes along with it just adds salt, a worthy device in the making
