Motorola CEO: “We Will Be One Of The First To Get To Gingerbread.”
Motorola CEO Sanjay made another great announcement today regarding software upgrades to its Android lineup. He spoke about the learning curve the industry went through as a whole last year regarding the timeliness of software upgrades and feels Motorola came out on top. He mentioned it wasn’t until June 2010 that they started to get a secure reign on the upgrade process and notes that they will continue to be one of the best manufacturers in that regard.
Motorola was “one of the first to get to Froyo” and “will be one of the first to get to Gingerbread.” No specific timeline was given, but they are currently testing Gingerbread and a few weeks back leaked photos of a Droid X running the new software surfaced. As a Droid X owner this is very good news, and reaffirms the fact that Motorola is the premier manufacturer when it comes to keeping their products up to date over their lifespan. I know me too blur or no blur at least we get timely updates
I call bullshit, the Motorola Milestone, which is the GSM version of the DROID is still stuck on Android 2.1 in many parts in the world. Sanjay's word is as good as crap.
Well the U.S. customers have been supported, the Droid was one of the first phones with 2.2 so you cant say his word is crap but maybe some markets are supported less than others
But will us D1 owners ever get Honeycomb?
I cant say, but considering that you run stock Android I can't see a reason why you wouldn't
Support outside of the U.S. has been pretty poor, other then their Verizon Devices updates are like pulling teeth long, painful and don't happen often…..
Not to rant but i think Google,Android, manufacturers and carriers as whole need to improve their standards on updates, it has become a mess in my mind.
Motorola is no exception! While they have taken care of some of their major flagship devices very well they have left others to die or whenever they get around to them.
Sanjay can say what he wants but action speak louder then words and the fact some phones don't even have froyo as of yet is scary, I think he needs to get his company on board with his plan.
you know europe is still waiting for froyo for the milestone (european droid). just saying…..
