Acer Iconia Tab A500. An “In Stock” Honeycomb Tablet

| April 27, 2011 | Comments (4)
The Acer Iconia A500 also went on sale on Tuesday at Best Buy and many stores still have this one in stock. BestBuy.com also list this one as available. Sure, it’s $50 more than the Transformer but it comes wrapped in a nice metal case and you can get one today.

It would actually be a better tablet for me as the spec’s are a little better than the Transformer. As a quick reminder:

  • 10.1” WXGA 1280×800 screen.
  • Dual core Nvidia Tegra 2, 1GHz
  • 16GB Storage
  • 1GB RAM
  • 2MP front/5MP rear camera
  • 8 hour battery life.

That battery life seems a little slim but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me. This is a Honeycomb tablet with a dual core chip and you can get it today for less than $500. What’s not to love about that?

I don't hate your phone or tablet choice, but I've probably got an opinion about it. Aside from my family, the only things that I love more than a new gadget are fly fishing and going to the ballpark. Ocassionaly I find a way to blog about both. Don't see much difference in the specs for the transformer as a matter of fact the battery life is rated at 9 hours for transformer. Unfortunately it's quite difficult to get a transformer anywhere.

I purchased one yesterday. I really like it comparing to Viewsonic G-tablet, and huawei ideos S7 that I purchased and test out for one day. The only issue with A500 is that it's probably t he heaviest android tablet out there. My wrist got tired of holding it in reading position after only 15 minutes. Wish it's below 1.5 LB. Besides that's it's one of the best tablets out there now. I'm still waiting on Asus Eee transformer. Hopefully it will be in stock in few weeks.

    • The A500 does seem pretty heavy in your hands for sure and very good tablet…I am testing one out as well.

Asus Eee Transformer seems to be the cheapest Honeycomb tablet available with great specs as well.It will be tough to beat this tablet in spec and price combination.
