Another Android 4.2 Bug Uncovered: In-App Transparency Glitch for Secondary User Accounts

Since the release of Android 4.2 it would seem there were a few different bugs uncovered that the Google development team had missed. The big one was that they had completely missed the month of December within the People app. I hate to be the developer or team who screwed up on that issue.

Now it would appear that another bug discovery has been made. It’s a strange issue that affects the multiple user accounts on the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Wow, Google really whizzed through this update because it would appear this version is the most “buggiest” they have encountered yet.

The issue happening is while there are applications running in the background like the “app tray, Play Store, or wallpaper,” they are being displayed in the “foreground app.” The weird part? It only happens on the “secondary accounts.” It is affected by apps that contain “some sort of transparency.” As soon as the issue was discovered on the Nexus 7, it was then tested on a Nexus 10, and it indeed proved to be a bug within the operating system itself.

Android Police was able to provide the below screenshots which clearly show the blue image as the “test” secondary account, whereas the black image is the “primary” account and what the screen should actually be displaying.

Also if you refer to the Code Android page you can read under “issues” about where a user posted his issue and the below screen shot was provided. The image was actually taken WHILE playing a game, and as you can see the wallpaper is bleeding through. I have to admit if it were me, it definitely would irritate me.

The user reported the following:

“In many applications the desktop wallpaper and icons bleed through.  See attached screenshot where the eyes are actually my wallpaper.  It seems to happen on areas of the screen where certain textures are being drawn.  It happens in about 50% of my games.”

That doesn’t exactly sound encouraging at least for Google. I’m starting to think that I’m quite happy I wasn’t one to rush out and get any of the Nexus line devices since it would appear Google has missed quite a few steps along the way before they released it.

I know, I know, I being in IT will clearly admit that it can be an easy to miss common sense stuff, but this is Google we are talking about here! Let us hope no more bugs are uncovered or people may start to lose their faith in Google.

What do you think about the long list of Android 4.2 bugs found since its release? How does it make you feel about Google and their development team?

I am a gamer, but not hardcore, and my son is close behind. We have two gaming consoles with more to come with one at least always being in use. I graduated with an associate degree as a Computer Support Specialist. It was a tough road, but I made it, and am ever so thankful. I love technology and playing with the vast variety of "toys" I can get my hands on, but my biggest love is Android and learning its ways. Anything new I wanna learn about it and will tell anyone I know I support Google 100%, at which point I have acquired the nickname "The Google Girl."

The articles on this site are always emotional, and unprofessional. There is at least one grammar and/or spelling error on every piece I read. There is a constant theme of complaining that borders on whining more and more. The line that always seems to be thrown around here is “…but they’re Google, I mean come on!”.
Yeah, no s*** they’re Google. The reason people like you are always disappointed is because you don’t have human expectations for a company run by humans. Any development team capable of these mistakes; no matter how big, small, smart, sophisticated, etc.. At least they are trying new things, always pushing the envelope the second they get comfortable. Since when is a bug free operating system remotely reasonable to expect? It doesn’t exist.
Just because Google is filled with some of the most brilliant mind around doesn’t make them any less human. Nobody from Google ever said that they (or Android) were perfect. That’s the way *you* might see it at times, but they have never told anyone to expect perfection. There are so many more pressing issues in the mobile industry– why waste so much energy stirring up web-riots? It’s useless. What I’m posting is useless.
What is wrong with the human race??

Who is the one complaining now? ha,ha…jk

We do our best on grammar but we are techies not English majors! We have grammar and spell checkers but stuff does slip through.Google can make mistakes but we can’t? …. lol

Seriously though, we report on the facts and can’t always be google cheerleaders 100% of the time. We try to play on both sides of the coin and present constructive criticism when needed and compliments when deserved .

We have tons of Google love on many of articles on this site but we are not afraid to play devils-advocate if need be.

      Have a Good Weekend!

Hey thanks for covering my bug report. I added some extra screenshots to show how bad it is in other games. As a programmer myself I understand that multi-user really is an insanely complicated feature to tackle and I’ve been impressed with most of the implementation otherwise, so I’m more bemused than anything else. I’m sure they’ll fix it soon. I can’t help wondering what kind of code bug would produce this on the secondary account only, though.

      Daniel Carr your welcome!

I really thought with 4.2.1 alot of the bugs would get fixed and my jb experience would be like when I first bought my N7. Come on Google make us happy and butter it back up!
